SALT LAKE CITY – March 13, 2017 – Ballet West’s annual Family Series returns to the Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre with The Little Mermaid, choreographed by Ballet West Principal Ballet Mistress Pamela Robinson-Harris, in collaboration with Associate Director of Ballet West II, Peggy Dolkas. The production takes the entire family on an adventure under the sea, guided by Hans Christian Andersen’s whimsical story, complete with a brave mermaid, a prince in search of love, and a devious sea witch.
“I think children should be exposed to fine arts from an early age, and its great when families enjoy them together,” said CEO and Artistic Director Adam Sklute. “That was my main motivation in creating a Family Series—I wanted to engage people of all ages. This ballet certainly does that with imaginative sets and costumes, bright colors, and, of course, beautiful dancing.”
Performed in just one hour and fifteen minutes by the members of Ballet West II, the Ballet West Academy Professional Training Division, and students of the Ballet West Academy, this beloved tale comes to life, filled with of humor, sadness, and beauty. “My design and choreographic teams have created a spectacular world of undersea kingdoms, waves, ships, and palaces that will enthrall any audience member,” said Sklute.
Performances of The Little Mermaid will take place March 30-April 2 for just six performances. With tickets starting at just $15, this truly is a family-friendly production. Tickets are now available online here, or by calling ArtTix at (801) 355-2787.
