The incredibly talented, Jun Märkl, will guide the orchestra through this wide-ranging evening of Spanish music. Concluding the evening will be Ravel’s one movement orchestral piece, Bolero, which has reach pop-culture status through film, the Olympics, and Japanese media. Originally commissioned for a ballet, this 15-minute work is dominated by a repetitive, hypnotic rhythm. Volleying two distinct melodies, each repeating eight times in various sections, the full orchestra comes together, bringing the piece to an exultant conclusion that is not to be missed.
Individuals ages five and older are welcome at this performance. Parents should ensure their children are able to sit quietly through the performance without disturbing others around them. No babes in arms will be admitted.
